The Philosophy of the Brush

Western art often prioritizes accuracy and light. Chinese ink painting prioritizes Qi (life force).

You will not be asked to paint a photorealistic apple. Instead, you will learn to capture the spirit of a subject, whether it is the resilience of bamboo or the elegance of an orchid. The instructor guides you through the "Xie Yi" (freehand) style, where a single stroke can define a leaf or a mountain.

It is incredibly meditative. The moment your brush touches the rice paper, the ink bleeds and settles instantly. There is no "Ctrl+Z." You have to commit to every movement.
